NovelHub

Chrome Extension Troubleshooting Guide

The NovelHub browser extension is essential for importing novels. If it's not working correctly, this guide covers the most common issues.

Extension not installed

If you see "Extension not detected" in the web app, the extension may not be installed.

Fix:

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for "NovelHub Translate Extension" (or find the link in your dashboard)
  2. Click Add to Chrome
  3. Refresh the NovelHub web app

Extension installed but not detected

The extension is installed but the web app can't communicate with it.

Fix:

  1. Open chrome://extensions
  2. Make sure the NovelHub extension toggle is On
  3. Click the reload (↻) button on the extension card
  4. Refresh the NovelHub web app
  5. Try importing again

If this doesn't work:

  • Remove the extension completely
  • Restart Chrome
  • Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store

Extension not working in incognito mode

By default, Chrome disables extensions in incognito windows.

Fix:

  1. Open chrome://extensions
  2. Click Details on the NovelHub extension
  3. Enable Allow in Incognito

Or simply use NovelHub in a regular browser window.

Scraping fails on specific sites

The extension might work for some sites but fail on others.

Possible causes:

  • The source site changed its page structure
  • The site is blocking automated access from your IP
  • Regional restrictions on the source site

Fix:

  • Try the same site in a regular browser tab to check if it loads
  • Disable any ad blockers temporarily. They can interfere with content loading.
  • Try importing from a different site to confirm the extension works generally

Extension conflicts

Other browser extensions can sometimes interfere with NovelHub's extension.

Common conflicts:

  • Ad blockers blocking requests to source sites
  • Privacy extensions blocking cross-site communication
  • Other content script extensions modifying page content

Fix:

  • Temporarily disable other extensions and test
  • If a specific extension causes the conflict, add an exception for the source site domains

Extension updates

The extension updates automatically through the Chrome Web Store. If you're experiencing issues after an update:

  1. Open chrome://extensions
  2. Check the extension version
  3. Try removing and reinstalling the extension

Browser compatibility

The extension works with Chrome and Chromium-based browsers. For the full compatibility table, see Use the Extension — Supported Browsers.

If you're using an unsupported browser, switch to Chrome or a Chromium-based browser.
