Terminology Basics Guide
Terminology management helps ensure consistent translations across chapters. Character names, place names, and recurring terms stay the same throughout your novel.
What terminology does
When NovelHub translates a chapter, it checks the terminology list for the novel. Established term mappings are reused so recurring names and key concepts stay consistent across chapters.
For example, if a character's name "林若" is established as "Lin Ruo," the system can keep using that mapping instead of drifting between multiple renderings.
Viewing terminology
All users can view the terminology for any novel in their library:
- Open a novel from your dashboard
- Click the Terminology tab
- Browse the term list
Each entry shows:
- Source term — The original Chinese text
- Translation — The English translation used
- Status and signals — Confidence, review state, and supporting metadata
Searching and filtering
Use the search bar at the top of the terminology list to find specific terms. You can also switch between useful, verified, needs-review, and issue-focused views.
Manual editing status
NovelHub currently focuses on terminology visibility and consistency rather than full manual glossary editing. Public plans let you review extracted terms, while broader add/edit/delete controls are still being expanded.

How terms are applied
During translation, the AI receives the terminology list as context. It uses these definitions to maintain consistency but also considers grammatical context. For example, a name might appear in different forms depending on the sentence structure.

Tips
Start with character names — Names are the most noticeable when translated inconsistently. Review the main cast first.
Watch for recurring variants — Compare full names, nicknames, titles, and place names early so you can catch drift before batch translating more chapters.
Check after translating — Read a few chapters and note any terms that look unstable. Use the terminology view to confirm how the system is handling them before translating more.
