Reader Display Troubleshooting Guide
Having trouble with the reader? This guide covers common issues with translations, display, and navigation.
Translation not loading
If a chapter shows a blank page or loading spinner:
- Check your connection — The translation streams from the server. A dropped connection stops the stream.
- Refresh the page — Reloading usually resumes or restarts the translation.
- Check credits — If you're out of credits, new translations won't start. Check your quota badge on the dashboard.
Translation quality is poor
Some chapters may produce lower-quality translations due to:
- Unusual formatting in the source text
- Heavy use of slang or dialects
- Very short or very long chapters
Fix:
- Use the feedback button in the reader's floating action panel to report specific issues (select a category and add details)
- Use the like/dislike buttons to vote on translation quality
- Try re-translating the chapter — results can vary
- Review the novel's terminology entries and submit feedback if a key term is being handled poorly
Text display issues
Text too small or too large
Adjust font size in the reader settings (reader's floating action panel → Settings):
- Range: 14px to 28px
- Default: 18px
Lines too close together or too far apart
Adjust line height in settings:
- Range: 1.4 to 2.3
- Default: 1.8
Content too wide or too narrow
Adjust content width in settings:
- Range: 560px to 920px
- Default: 720px
Chapter navigation issues
Can't go to next/previous chapter:
- You may be at the first or last translated chapter
- Check the chapter drawer to see which chapters are available
Chapter drawer not opening:
- Click the Chapters button in the reader's floating action panel
Wrong chapter loading:
- Check the chapter list in the drawer for correct ordering
- The source novel's chapter numbering may not match NovelHub's ordering
Reading progress not syncing
Reading progress syncs across devices when you're signed in. If it's not working:
- Make sure you're signed in to the same account on both devices
- Check your internet connection
- Progress saves periodically — wait a moment and check again
Theme not applying
If the theme doesn't switch:
- Try switching via Settings → Appearance
- Or use the command palette and type "theme"
- Clear your browser cache if the issue persists
Still stuck?
If none of these solve your problem:
- Check FAQ for more answers
