URL-Based Novel Import & Translation

The SmartImporter on your dashboard lets you import novels by pasting URLs. It automatically detects whether you're importing a full novel or a single chapter and handles everything for you.

TL;DR — Paste a JJWXC or Qidian novel or chapter URL into the SmartImporter on your dashboard. The extension scrapes the content in the background and adds it to your library.

How SmartImporter works

When you paste a URL, the SmartImporter works with the browser extension to scrape content from the source site:

1. The web app sends the URL to the extension
2. The extension navigates to the source site and extracts content
3. For novels: title, author, cover image, description, and chapter list
4. For chapters: chapter content and metadata
5. The data returns to the web app and saves to your library

The extension must be installed and active for imports to work. If you have not installed it yet, see Use the Extension.

Import a full novel

When you paste a novel URL (the main page for a book), SmartImporter imports:

• Novel title (in Chinese and English, if available)
• Author name
• Cover image
• Description
• Complete table of contents

Steps:

1. Go to your dashboard
2. Find the SmartImporter input box at the top
3. Paste the novel URL (e.g., https://www.jjwxc.net/onebook.php?novelid=123456)
4. Click Import

The novel appears in your library within a few seconds. Chapter content is not downloaded yet — only the metadata and chapter list.

Import a single chapter

When you paste a chapter URL, SmartImporter:

1. Imports the chapter content
2. Creates or updates the parent novel in your library
3. Automatically translates the chapter
4. Opens the translated chapter in the reader

This is useful when you want to quickly read one chapter without importing the entire book.

Steps:

1. Copy a chapter URL from a supported site like JJWXC
2. Paste it into the SmartImporter
3. Click Import
4. Wait for translation to complete (streaming shows progress)
5. Start reading

NovelHub imports from Chinese web novel platforms. All four are fully supported:

Getting the right URL

The URL format matters. Here's what works:

Novel URLs (import full book):

• https://www.jjwxc.net/onebook.php?novelid=123456
• https://www.qidian.com/book/1010809806

Chapter URLs (import + translate single chapter):

• https://www.jjwxc.net/onebook.php?novelid=123456&chapterid=1
• https://www.qidian.com/chapter/1010809806/123456789

Copy URLs directly from your browser's address bar while viewing the page. Don't use shortened links or redirects.

What happens after import

For novels:

• The novel card appears in your dashboard
• Click it to see the chapter list
• Translate chapters individually or in batches

For chapters:

• Translation starts automatically
• You're redirected to the reader once done
• The parent novel is added to your library

Troubleshooting

"Extension not detected" error

The browser extension isn't installed or isn't responding. Make sure you:

• Installed it from the Chrome Web Store
• Haven't disabled it in chrome://extensions
• Are using Chrome or a Chromium-based browser

Import stuck or very slow

Source sites sometimes load slowly or block requests. Try:

• Refreshing the page and importing again
• Checking if the source site is accessible
• Waiting a few minutes if the site is rate-limiting

"Unsupported site" message

The URL isn't from a supported platform. Check the supported sites list and make sure you copied the correct URL.

VIP or paid chapters not importing

NovelHub imports content your browser session can legitimately access on the source site. If a chapter is locked, VIP-only, or requires login, unlock it on the source platform first and try again. NovelHub does not bypass paywalls.
