Reading Modes, Themes & Typography

NovelHub's reader lets you customize your reading experience with adjustable typography and layout settings. These display preferences are currently saved in your browser on each device.

Accessing reading settings

Open the settings panel from the reader's floating action panel on the right side of the screen. Click the Settings (gear) button.

Font size

SettingRangeDefault
Font size14px – 28px18px

Drag the slider to adjust. Larger fonts reduce eye strain during long reading sessions. Smaller fonts show more content per screen.

Line height

SettingRangeDefault
Line height1.4 – 2.31.8

Line height controls the vertical space between lines of text. Higher values create more breathing room, which is easier to read for dense or technical translations.

Content width

SettingRangeDefault
Content width560px – 920px720px

Narrower widths keep line lengths short, making it easier to track from line to line. Wider widths are better for large screens where you want to fill more of the viewport.

Rhythm mode

NovelHub stores a rhythm mode preference in reader settings. It is best understood as a lightweight reading-style preference rather than a separate typewriter-mode screen.

It is intended to support a more natural long-form reading flow through spacing and rhythm adjustments as the reader evolves.

Themes

Three theme options are available:

  • Light — White background with dark text
  • Dark — Dark background with light text
  • System — Automatically matches your OS setting

Switch themes from:

  • The reader settings panel
  • The command palette, then search "theme"
  • Settings → Appearance in the main app

Settings storage

Your reading preferences are currently stored locally in the browser where you set them. If you switch devices or browsers, you may need to adjust them again.

Long reading sessions: Font size 20px, line height 2.0, width 580px. Optimized for minimal eye strain.

Quick scanning: Font size 16px, line height 1.6, width 880px. Shows more content per screen for skimming through chapters.

Mobile reading: The reader adapts to your screen width automatically. Use a slightly larger font size (20-22px) for comfortable reading on smaller screens.
